West Sedona is a STEM School

West Sedona School was the second school in the state of Arizona to achieve AdvancED, now Cognia, STEM Accreditation as of the 2017-2018 school year. Our teachers focus on integrating STEM lessons and activities into their instructional planning to enhance student learning opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic content areas.

Students experience STEM through classroom EiE units, a weekly STEM special class and community projects with members of the Sedona Community including Friends of the Forest and the Forest Service.  Our Wildcat Extended Day Program also offers experiences with STEM kits and partnerships with Gardens for Humanity and Science Vortex.

We have a 2,000 square foot MakerSpace for our students to learn in a workshop-like environment with tools such as 3D Printers, a full LegoWall, Robotics, Computer Hardware, Puzzles, and a 49 foot Aluminum Pinewood Derby Race Track! Students in Grades 3-5 also have opportunities to learn coding.

Our young Wildcats are also fortunate to each have their own Chromebook as we are a 1:1 technology district. Each classroom is also fully equipped with interactive smart monitors as well as Google classroom capabilities.

West Sedona School professional development for teachers includes partnerships with the Arizona Science Center and Arizona Department of Education. We look forward to continued professional development opportunities in EiE (Engineering is Elementary) through the Boston Museum of Science.
