Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment

The Sedona Oak Creek Unified School District provides a rich and rigorous academic program designed to prepare students for success through college and career. All content areas adhere to the Arizona State Standards, as well as the guidelines and requirements for special courses such as Advanced Placement through College Board and Dual Enrollment through Yavapai College.

Board adopted curriculum is reviewed bi-annually for K-12 alignment to ensure it meets the needs of all District students.  The Curriculum Task Force, a committee of diverse stakeholders, analyzes existing and potential curricular resources to make recommendations to the District administration and Governing Board.  Our most recent curricular adoptions were Reading Street by Pearson (K-6), Eureka Math by Great Minds (K-6), and Collections by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (7-12).

To meet the diverse learning needs of all students, the District has specially designed instruction for Gifted & Talented Education, Special Education, and Structured English Immersion.

Formative and diagnostic assessments are utilized to monitor student growth and to identify areas of need.  Galileo benchmark testing is administered three times per year (K-12) and DIBELS is used to measure literacy progress for our K-6 students.

Students are prepared for success on state standardized testing: AzM2 (Writing, Reading, Listening, and Mathematics), AIMS Science, and AZELLA (English language proficiency).  We also prepare students for AP Exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and State and industry certifications for some CTE courses.
