How do I enroll my child at Sedona-Oak Creek schools?

We are thrilled to welcome new members to our community! Please visit our Enrollment page for information about enrolling your child at one of our schools. You may also download and print a copy of the K–12 Enrollment Packet, and bring the completed forms, together with the required documentation, to the main office of the school your child will attend.

If you are interested in our pre-K program, please see the Prekindergarten page on the West Sedona School website.

What is PowerSchool, and how do I get a username and password to use it?

PowerSchool is just another way we maintain strong communication between home and school. It provides you with almost real-time access to your child’s grades, attendance history, and other important information. To receive your login information, please see the PowerSchool Login Information document.

Do your schools offer breakfast and lunch?

Yes! We operate an excellent nutrition program at each campus. Our cafeterias serve breakfast and lunch every school day at no cost to our students. Please see our district’s Food Services page.

Do you provide transportation services?

We are pleased to provide our students with safe, reliable transportation to and from school daily. We consider bus riding a privilege and expect all students to adhere to the rules for their safety as well as for the safety of others. Please visit our district Transportation page.

Can my teen drive him/herself to school?

May my high schooler drive to and from school?

Yes, and student parking on the Sedona Red Rock campus is available with a parking permit, which must be displayed in the vehicle window while parked in the student lot. If you have questions regarding parking, please email Assistant Principal Mr. George Gleason or call him at 928-204-6702.

Does SOCUSD enforce a dress code?

We expect our students to dress in an appropriate manner at all times. Student dress may not present a health or a safety hazard; violate municipal, county, or state law; or present a potential disruption of the educational process. Generally, the following are the rules of attire:

  • We do not permit tube tops, strapless, spaghetti straps, or halter tops.
  • Necklines may not expose the cleavage.
  • Pants must be secured at the hips.
  • The entire bottom hem of the upper garment must touch and cover the top of the lower garment—no midriffs, bellies, or backs showing.
  • Underwear cannot be worn as outerwear (like boxers or white tank tops).
  • Students must wear shoes at all times for health and safety reasons.
  • Your shorts must be at least as long as your fingertips when your arms are extended at your sides.
  • Students’ skirts must extend at least two inches beyond their fingertips, unless shorts or opaque leggings are worn underneath.
  • Students may wear net, lace, sheer, or see-through clothing only as overwear. Underwear must not be visible.
  • We prohibit clothing associated with substances that are not legally available to minors.
  • We prohibit clothing with racial, sexual, violent, and/or profane connotations.
  • We prohibit gang-associated clothing (including neo-Nazi symbols and bandanas).
  • We do not allow students to wear sunglasses in the classrooms.
  • We do not allow students to wear chains, spiked collars, spiked bracelets, or belts/jewelry that look like or can be used as weapons.
  • Teachers may require students to remove hats inside buildings at their discretion.
What if my child needs to leave school early?

A parent or guardian must sign out and pick up students at the front office. Students with a valid driving license who can drive themselves may leave campus with prior written permission from a parent/guardian and approval from the principal.

How do I donate my tax credit money to the school?

All you need to do is download and print the form located on the Tax Credit page; fill it out, and get it to us. You can make your contribution in person at any of our schools, or you may mail the form to us. We’ll mail you a receipt for tax reporting purposes.

Elementary School FAQs

How do I reach my student's teacher?

West Sedona Elementary uses ClassDojo on a schoolwide level. This smartphone app allows a direct channel to every teacher in the building as well as to the office staff. Download this app to your smartphone and use the QR code provided by your student’s assigned homeroom teacher. If you do not have a smartphone, please call or email the individual you need to speak with using the contact list provided in the student/parent handbook.

What if I need to change the way my child is dismissed?

Call the office directly at 928-204-6600 to let the office know how your child will be going home. Our office staff will contact all staff who need to be advised of this change.

Can my child walk or ride their bike to school?

Students in fourth and fifth grades who live in the direct vicinity of the school may use the pink sidewalk areas to walk or ride to school with the express and written permission of their parents. We do not advise allowing children younger than fourth grade to walk to school due to the tight nature of the street and the sidewalk as well as the proximity to highly populated areas such as the trailheads, the parks, and the swimming pool.

I need my student to have a smart device for personal safety reasons. What is the policy?

Students who bring personal devices (such as phones and watches) to school must turn them completely off and store them in their backpacks. Sedona-Oak Creek Unified School District is not responsible for theft or breakage of personal devices. If you need to reach your child during school hours, please contact the office at 928-204-6600, which will communicate the message or connect you with your child directly.

What is the attendance policy?

We expect students to be ready to learn and seated in their classrooms every morning by 8:45. Students who arrive after this time are tardy. All Arizona public schools must follow the attendance expectations established by the Arizona Department of Education as summarized below:

Mandatory Attendance

Children ages six to sixteen must attend school during regular school hours, unless they have a specific exemption.

Truancy

A student is considered truant if they are absent from school, without excuse, for at least one class period during the day.

Excessive Absences

Absences exceeding 10% of the required school days are considered excessive.

Habitually Truant

A student is considered habitually truant if they are absent from school for at least five consecutive school days within a school year.

Incorrigible Child

Children who are habitually truant or have excessive absences may be adjudicated as incorrigible.

Excused Absences

A.R.S. § 15-807 details excused absences, including illness, doctor appointments, and other reasons approved by the school.

Parental Responsibility

Parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring their children attend school and for notifying the school of any absences.

Please call the West Sedona School office at 928-204-6602 as soon as you are aware your child will be absent. For more information, please refer to page 13 of the Student/Parent Handbook.
